Transferee Opportunities - Authorised Firearms Officers (Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) standard)
North Yorkshire Police currently have a number of opportunities available for Authorised Firearms Officers(AFOs) within the Firearms Support Unit (FSU). Policing a diverse mix of rural and urban environments making up North Yorkshire, the largest single County in England, provides exciting challenges to maintain and build on its justifiable reputation as the safest county in England. In delivering the Police and Crime Plan our focus is to make sure our communities are safe and feel safe.
With an annual influx of around four million visitors this brings a particularly diverse and challenging environment for AFOs to be a part of.
The Firearms Support Unit currently operates from bases at Tadcaster and Thirsk. In order to provide for future succession planning we are pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications from officers who are already qualified as an AFO and who are interested in transferring to North Yorkshire Police.
We are specifically seeking officers trained to Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) standard, applicants should note that training records will be reviewed as part of the recruitment process.
The primary purpose of the FSU is to provide an armed response to both spontaneous and planned firearms incidents. When not deployed the team operates as a Force resource providing an opportunity for involvement in operational policing.
As part of a tight knit team, AFOs enjoy excellent training and support focused on personal development. Furthermore, applicants should be good team workers with the ability to operate on their own initiative. A high level of physical fitness is also a requirement, as are excellent problem-solving, negotiation and communication skills.
Due to the investment in training there is an expectation that successful candidates will serve for a minimum of two years with the FSU.

It is proposed that successful applicants will commence in March 2019. Successful candidates will be required to relocate at their own cost, if applicable.
