Do you want to help make Policing and Fire Services better in North Yorkshire?
In June 2018 the Home Secretary announced that Julia Mulligan, elected Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, would take on the governance of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service with the transfer of governance taking place on Thursday 15 November 2018.
As part of this transfer of governance the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner needs to put in place an Independent Audit Committee to ensure that excellent governance arrangements are in place for Fire Services within North Yorkshire.
The Commissioner already has a Joint Independent Audit Committee in place covering ‘Police’ and is currently looking at options to explore either extending the scope of this Committee to include ‘Fire’ or running a separate Committee to deal specifically with ‘Fire’.
The Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (OPFCC) is therefore looking for articulate, experienced professionals to help govern Fire, Police and the OPFCC by taking up between two and four-year terms on Joint Independent Audit Committee(s) (JIAC) covering Police, Fire and/or both committees.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to be able to join a dynamic team, and support the Commissioner, Chief Fire Officer and Chief Constable in discharging their statutory responsibilities.
Committee Members are required to each attend four meetings a year, these are voluntary unpaid roles, but reasonable expenses incurred as a result of carrying out the role will be reimbursed.
Independent members will proactively support the Commissioner, Chief Fire Officer and Chief Constable in ensuring the right governance and control mechanisms are in place to support well-run police and fire services.
As an independent member, you should have a financial, accountancy, risk-management or audit background and have experience in corporate governance, ideally in the public sector. The JIAC is specifically looking for people with skills in the following areas:
• Risk management
• Treasury management
• Audit governance
The Committee(s) will review and scrutinise the adequacy and effectiveness of risk management, internal audit and control, and corporate governance arrangements of both organisations, as well as reviewing financial management and reporting.

Applicants must be over the age of 18, and be able to attend meetings at Alverton Court, Northallerton during the working day. Applicants must not be internal employees of North Yorkshire Police or Fire as they must remain independent from the organisations.
