Volunteer Police Cadets (Catterick Garrison, York, Harrogate)
Have you ever wondered what you would like to do when you finish school? Are you passionate about joining the police in the future? Becoming a Police Cadet is a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain an insight into policing, develop their skills and support the local community.
The cadet scheme is open to all young people aged between 14 and 16 who live in York, Catterick Garrison, Harrogate, or the surrounding areas.
During your weekly cadet meetings you will learn about policing duties and skills, and basic law. Your cadet nights will also include physical activities, drills, visits from various Officers and Staff members from NYP and first aid skills. Being a cadet will give you a great insight into policing and you will have the opportunity to visit departments within the police service such as the Dog Section, Firearms Unit, Roads Policing and Crime Scene Investigation units.
As a cadet you will represent North Yorkshire Police and in addition to your weekly meetings you will be expected to contribute at least 3 hours each month to assist your local community with events such as fairs, town shows and any other local events. You will also assist your local Neighbourhood Policing Teams working alongside both PCSOs and Police Officers with crime prevention initiatives, community safety events and street surveys.
After your first 12 weeks’ induction training, you will attend an attestation ceremony where you will take the Cadet Oath in front of your family and friends.
Cadets will be issued with a uniform but you must provide your own black leather boots/shoes.
