Police Community Support Officer (PCSO)
There are few jobs that can offer the variety, meaning and excitement than that of a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO). If you have the drive and desire to make a real difference in your community, then the role of PCSO may be for you.
As a PCSO you will be a positive role model and a continuous visible source of strength for local people. You will act as the eyes and ears on the streets providing a reassuring presence in tackling the issues that matter most to our communities.
No day is the same; you could be on independent foot patrol, making house visits and gathering intelligence. You will also tackle anti-social behaviour and engage in many other ways with local communities to identify appropriate support available to them.
You will need to be a great communicator who is quick to establish authentic relationships, with a calm and confident personality. Be able to work under your own initiative and be resilient in dealing with a variety of incidents, acting with dignity and respect at all times. You’ll be able to listen carefully to people, think through problems and find solutions. You will also be committed to delivering excellent customer service and a true team player who can work effectively in teams, local partners and community groups.
Broad life skills and experience will really help you in this job. We need people who are resourceful, diplomatic and in touch with the real world. But above all, you’ll be someone who genuinely cares about others and wants to see them safe and well.PCSOs are an increasingly important part of the police 'family' and their role is an interesting and constantly evolving one.
